Students to compete in UIL meet

A number of Albany High School students will travel to Stamford on Wednesday, March 22, to compete in the District 10-2A UIL Academic Meet.

The top three places in individual events will advance to the regional meet, while each top team in the team events moves on to the next level.

Only three entrants are accepted in each event from member schools in individual contests, while teams can enter up to six contestants, with the top four counting towards the team score.

The Region 2-2A meet is set for April 21-22 at Grayson College in Denison. Students placing in the top three there, or on the top team, will advance to the State UIL Meet in Austin on May 17 and 18.

“We don’t have all the contests covered, but there is a large group going to the district meet next week,” UIL coordinator Rick Davis said. “The kids have been really busy with all the spring sports and other activities, but I think they will make a good showing.”

A total of 28 students are entered in the 15 various contests, with some entered in up to five events as follows:

Calculator Applications: Kolt Koemel, Mimi Ivy, Woods Peterson, Alli McDaniel, alternate.

Computer Science: Kolt Koemel, Holden Sanchez, Jonathan Coody.

Copy Editing: Ashley Richards, Sidney Russell, Mayson Garcia, Leddie Leech, alternate.

Current Issues and Events: Michael Sadler, Landon Kreitler, John Birkla, Jayce Tinkle.

Editorial Writing: Avery Everitt, Sidney Russell, Mayson Garcia, Robyn Trail, alternate.

Feature Writing: Avery Everitt, Sidney Russell, Leddie Leech, Robyn Trail, alternate.

Headline Writing: Ashley Richards, Mayson Garcia, Robyn Trail.

Mathematics: Jaden Bean, Kolt Koemel, Jonathan Coody, Holden Sanchez.
