Students compete in UIL events
The junior high and elementary University Interscholastic League district meet originally planned for Thursday, Dec. 13 in Hawley was rescheduled to eliminate a conflict with the state semifinal football game between Albany and Gruver in Plainview that same day.
“The UIL academic competitions have been moved to Wednesday, Dec. 12 to allow for student participation in these contests as well as being able to support the football team in Plainview on Thursday,” said incoming AISD superintendent/NSES principal Jonathan Scott. “We are very grateful to the district schools for agreeing to change the date of the competition. A special thanks go to Hawley ISD for hosting the competition.”
The Hawley meet is for students in second through eighth grades. Sixth graders will join the junior high classes in a middle school division.
Parents can attend the event, but are not allowed to watch competitions, according to Scott.
Other schools in District 8-2A are Cross Plains, Haskell, Hawley, Roscoe, and Stamford.
“We are so proud of our students that have been preparing for the competition and we look forward to seeing their success,” said Scott. “Thank you to all the UIL coaches and sponsors!”
The UIL Academic Team also thanked the Academic Booster Club for providing a snack bag to each student that competed.
