Students benefit from Lion Academy

Albany Junior Senior High School started up the after-school Lion Academy last week as a chance to give students an extra academic boost.
AJSH principal Glenn Hill said the expectation is to give students an opportunity to get caught up on school work and provide extra help for those who need it.
“I am excited about Lion Academy, and I know it is a great benefit to the students,” Hill explained.
Lion Academy will be open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 3:45 to 6:45 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m.
Hill added that times will be adjusted when basketball season begins.
Students must have assignments from teachers or homework to be able to go to Lion Academy.
“This is an awesome service, but we need our students to follow some simple rules in order for future success,” Hill said.
There will be sign-in and sign-out sheets, and when their work is complete, students must leave school property.
Students are asked to exit through the main doors and not come back into the building.
Campus rules for cell phone and electronic devices apply, and no video games or videos are to be watched on school computers during the sessions.
“Computers are for research and assignments only,” Hill said.
Students attending Lion Academy to take tests will be required to turn their cell phones in to a teacher and their backpacks must be out of reach.
Hill added that students may bring water, but no food is permitted, and messes need to be cleaned up before students leave.
“Being disrespectful and causing disruption is grounds for dismissal,” Hill said.
Last but not least, the principal advised that students go to Lion Academy ready to be productive.
