Nearly 30 Albany FFA students participated in the Greenhand Camp on Oct. 13 at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene with local chapter president Leddie Leech helping lead part of the program.

Leech assisted with a presentation entitled “What Can FFA Do For You.”

“It was about what FFA can do through leadership qualities and friendship, and how being part of the organization can help you grow as a person,” Leech said. “I was helping the state president (Ember Reyes) who came up with the presentation.”

In addition to being the Albany High School chapter president, Leech is also a district vice president.

“I added to parts of Ember’s presentation,” Leech said. “And I helped kids with the activities.

District, area, and state officers conducted opening and closing ceremonies, with a series of motivational speakers in between. Greenhands also took part in games and team-building exercises, as well as receiving Explore Area 4 T-shirts.

“This is a conference for the freshman students so they can see what FFA is about and meet other students from the Area 4 association,” Albany FFA advisor Chris Beard said.

Albany sent 25 freshmen to the camp.

Bass Tournament

Albany FFA members Caden Price and Cole Read participated in the Texas High School Bass Association fishing tournament at Lake Texoma over the weekend.

The duo caught three fish that weighed in at 4.94 pounds to  place 32nd out of 226 high school teams.

Justin Read served as the boat captain.

The next fishing tournament will be Nov. 13 at Lake Lewisville.
