Students to attend convention

Members of the Albany Student Council will participate in the Fall Regional Convention at the Civic Center in Abilene on Wednesday, Oct. 3.

This year there are 28 high school students on the AHS council, and 19 junior high representatives.

Typically a large percentage of the high school members of the council attend the annual convention.

Motivational speakers at the event help inspire the student leaders to get involved with their community through various types of projects, according to sponsor Donnie Lucas.

“The students typically come home ready to tackle service projects,” said Lucas.

The council already has several projects lined up for the year.

“We are going Trick or Treating for Change to benefit the Albany Chest, and plan to go Caroling for Coins again,” said Lucas. “We will sponsor a blood drive once in the fall and again in the spring.”

The council also sponsors the Winter Formal.

Student council president for the current school year is Ryan Hill, with Madison Wilkins serving as vice president.

Taylor Scott is secretary, Carley Green is treasurer, Jaleigh Morales is reporter, and Cutter Cowart is parliamentarian.

Representatives from each class include the class president, plus any other students in grades seven through 12 who are interested in serving.
