Shackelford County Library’s annual children’s story hour will start Friday, June 9, before moving to Tuesday for the rest of the month.

Organizer Janna Ledbetter said the program, geared toward preschool and early elementary children, will center around different animals, starting with a beekeeper.

Other programs will be Lori Schooler on chickens on June 13, Kelsey Bell on horses on June 20, and Ledbetter and Tracy Sullivan on goats on June 27.

“We’ll do a presentation with the animals, describe their lives, uses, how they’re cared for and fed,” Ledbetter said. “We’ll let the kids pet them, except for the bees, of course. Then we’ll have story time, crafts, and refreshments.”

Story hour will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. each week. Preschool children must be accompanied by an adult. The program will include crafts and games related to each story.

The program is designed to give children access to reading material during the summer and familiarize them with the local library.

Registration is not required to attend.
