Shackelford County law enforcement officers recovered a large amount of stolen oilfield equipment last week off Highway 6 near Moran, according to information from sheriff Ed Miller.

“On Jan. 3, we executed a search warrant at a property located on FM 2408 as a result of ongoing investigations into oilfield thefts occurring in Shackelford, Stephens, and Young counties,” said Miller. “A number of stolen items were recovered as a result of the search warrant.”

At this week’s Monday morning county meeting, the sheriff thanked commissioners Ace Reames and Lanham Martin for assisting in the recovery process, which took until about 3:00 a.m. to complete.

The commissioners provided equipment and manpower so that 43 joints of 2-3/8 inch oilfield pipe, a pipe trailer, and a transit level could be removed from the property.

“The sheriff’s office doesn’t have that kind of equipment, so we appreciate their help,” the sheriff said.

Miller said that the recovery actually stemmed from a traffic stop in Stephens County, when law enforcement officers there spotted a suspicious vehicle pulling a trailer filled with oilfield pipe.

“The Shackelford County sheriff’s office is working with our neighboring counties in the investigations so we can present these cases for criminal prosecution,” said Miller.

He added that no charges or arrests had been made as of Tuesday.

“Anyone with information about oilfield thefts occurring in and around the area, please contact a sheriff’s office,” said Miller.
