A Jones County man who had been missing for two weeks was found dead in his car over the weekend just inside the Shackelford County line.

Chris Guevara, 40, of Stamford was discovered off of a dead end portion of CR 174 near Hamby by a lease holder who was in the area to replenish his deer feeders, according to local sheriff Ed Miller.

“It’s a remote part of the county, and the car had gone through the fence and was not really visible from the road,” said Miller. “The man who called it in just happened to catch a glimpse of the vehicle.”

DPS officer Brian Waggoner was the first one on the scene, with other officers called in after he determined that Guevara’s body was inside the car.

Guevara was last seen leaving his job at a Haskell County rock quarry two weeks ago and was reported missing by family members.

Miller said that the cause of death was not clear. Preliminary autopsy results are expected in about a week.
