The girls Weekend of Champions camp sponsored by the Big Country Fellowship of Christian Athletes is shaping up to be the biggest yet, according to local FCA respresentative Paul Johnston.

Johnston said registration for the girls camp, scheduled Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 4-5, at Eastland’s Solid Rock Camp, was at 135 as of Tuesday, Jan. 31. The total includes 17 girls from Albany.

“We have nearly 40 group leaders, so this is for sure going to be the largest gathering we’ve ever had for girls,” he said. “We have a few more days, and I think several kids will still sign up. We’re nearly at camp capacity.”

Johnston will lead the girls camp, which is for girls from eighth through 12th grade. The program will have the theme of “Crown Him King” and consist of five discussion sessions designed to show and tell youth how to make God more real in their daily walk.

Johnston said the boys camp, scheduled for Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 11-12, at Solid Rock, has reached 100 registrants with five from Albany. Jamie Calvery of Big Country FCA will lead the boys camp.

Cost is $120 per camper. Johnston said scholarships are available for students who otherwise could not afford to attend.

Johnston said flyers for both camps contain QR codes that will allow youth to register for the events. Online registration may be done through www.bigcountryfca.org/weekend-of-champions.
