After approving his retainer at last month’s meeting of the Shackelford County Hospital District board meeting, the directors met their new legal counsel on Monday, Aug. 15 at their regular monthly session.

They also set a date to work on the budget and discuss tax rate calculations, which should be available by the end of this week. The special session will be held at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24.

New Attorney

John Montgomery, an attorney who has had a local office for about 18 months, introduced himself to several of the board members who had not yet met him.

“I have no prior experience with hospital districts, but I’m doing some research,” he said, adding that he will attempt to be as assessible as possible for anyone who has questions.

Montgomery has been reviewing some employee contracts that were given to him a few weeks ago, but he asked for a little more time before he makes any recommendations.

Other Business

•District administrator Brandi Green and nurse practitioner Claire Ware received permission to fill a full-time position at the clinic by combining some of the duties of a receptionist and a medical assistant rather than hiring a full-time nurse.

•One of the payments approved for the month was the district’s $12,000 half of the AirMedCare Network benefit for county citizens. Shackelford County shares in the cost of the annual membership fee.
