Smith attends Coastal Brigade
By Sam Waller
Connor Smith put in a busy but productive final week of his summer vacation, taking part in the Coastal Brigade camp and returning home just hours before reporting for the first day of football practice.
Smith, who will be a freshman at Albany High School, received an award for best poster at Coastal Brigade.
“The poster will be used when I give my presentation to people who sponsored me to go to camp,” said Smith, who used sharks as the theme of his work. “Coastal Brigade was fun. We did a lot more actual fishing than I thought we would, and I learned a lot.”
Smith attended his second Texas Brigade camp of the summer Tuesday-Sunday, July 25-30 at Sea Star Base at Galveston. He also attended Bass Brigade July 5-9 at Warren Ranch at Santa Anna.
After serving as an assistant leader at Bass Brigade, Smith was a cadet at the Coastal Brigade camp. He said he hasn’t decided whether to pursue an assistant leader position at Coastal Brigade for next year.
Texas Brigade camps offer hands-on, five-day, immersive learning experiences designed to educate participants about the particular needs of various wildlife species.
