Earlier this year, Albany High School senior and lifelong Albany resident Sidney Bartee was named Lions Club Sweetheart for 2020-2021.

Lions Club member Myra Hise said the Lions were proud to name Sidney as the sweetheart for the year.

“She was chosen for her outstanding grades and participation in school,” Hise added. “She has pride in her community and an amazing work ethic.”

Sidney works two part-time jobs even while going to school, and is still involved in a big part of the Lions Club activities.

“We are so glad to have her represent us this year,” Hise said.

Sidney Bartee has attended Albany schools her entire academic career.

She is the drum major for the Albany High School band and a student council member.

Bartee is active in several community activities including working at The Albany News and interning at the Old Jail Art Center, acting in the Fandangle, and performing in the annual Albany Dance Theatre production.

Extracurricular school activities in which she has participated include marching band contests, UIL One Act Play, the school newspaper, and UIL competition for mathematics, science, and ready writing.

She plans to attend Texas A&M University next fall.

Bartee is the daughter of Traci and Stephen Bartee.

The sweetheart will represent the organization throughout the year at events where the club has a presence, including the Lions Club Benefit Bowl.

Upon her graduation in May, Bartee will be given a Lions Club scholarship to be used at the college of her choice.
