Senior girls from Albany’s Dance Theatre Company will participate in their final recital this Friday night.

The private event, which is open to invited guests only, will be at the Whitney Theatre at 7:00 p.m.

The recital theme and senior song chosen for the 70th year is “We Will Rise.”

Owner and choreographer Betsy Parsons said “We Will Rise” reflects the recent controversies related to COVID-19.

“Adults typically are faced with situations that force them to rise to the occasion,” Parsons said. “During the recent events, children are now being faced with situations forcing them to rise up as well.”

The prelude for the recital adds to the importance of the message “We Will Rise,” with the song “You Raise Me Up” recorded by Josh Groban.

Parsons said the religious song conveys to listeners that during trials and tribulations, God is there.

Although this year’s recital will take place only for the senior dancers, there was another theme and painted set in place before the pandemic shutdown.

“But we are focusing on what we can do, not what we cannot do,” Parsons said.

A video of the performance, including a slideshow of all the dancers from the company grouped by age, will be given to  each participant as a keepsake.

Parsons said the video will not be on the Facebook page due to music copyright restrictions.

2020-2021Enrollment

Enrollment for next year will begin after Labor Day.

When the time comes, forms will be sent home from school to students who have danced previously with the company.

Parsons suggests calling after Labor Day to get  a student’s name on the list.

Call Parsons at 325-762-4016 or Malarie Sutton at 325-762-6368.

Parsons added that as the result of COVID-19, there might be restrictions placed on the number of students in each class.

“It will be first come first serve, but the dance company will try to accommodate everyone,” Parsons said.
