Board members for the Shackelford County Senior Citizen Activity Center announced this week that a “soft opening” will take place on Monday, July 6.

Board secretary Mary Beth Jones said Tuesday that the opening is dependent on COVID-19 numbers prior to the event.

Senior center hours will be weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., closed on weekends.

Jones said games will begin Friday, July 10, for seniors who feel comfortable coming to the center.

Jim and Saundra Nobles have donated the upper and lower cabinets in memory of Delora Dipple.

Board members thank all those who have donated money and items to the center.

“This facility would not be possible without the help of the Albany city council and the late mayor Rodney Alexander,” said Jones.

She added that annual fundraisers will be held to support the maintenance costs of the building that was purchased by the city, along with helping with utility payments and general upkeep of the center.

Donations and memorials are accepted at Albany City Hall or First National Bank, referencing the Shackelford County Senior Citizen Activity Center.
