Shackelford County 4-H’s senior horse judging team qualified for state competition Friday, March 24 at the District 7 contest in San Angelo.

The team of Faith Fry, Madailein Beard, Riley Reames, and Paisley Clark will compete at the State 4-H Roundup in June at College Station.

In addition, two junior teams placed. The team of Grace Fry, Artie Bell, Carly Kreitler, and Cody Fry placed fourth with Rainy Nitschke, Kerrigan Howard, and Reese Nitschke sixth.

“We had a great day,” Shackelford County extension agent Kelsey Bell said. “The senior team was the only full team in the contest, but they still did really well.”

Individually, Faith Fry placed first, Beard sixth, Reames seventh, and Clark eighth.

In the junior division, Grace Fry was third, Rainy Nitschke ninth, and Artie Bell 12th.

“The junior division was really tough,” Kelsey Bell said. “The fact that our juniors did so well was great. We’re excited about being able to continue working with these kids.”

Upcoming Events

Shackelford County 4-H will conduct its highway cleanup Friday, March 31 along a stretch of U.S. Highway 180.

“We originally scheduled that back in February, but the weather was bad, and we had to call it off,” Bell said.

The next club meeting will be Monday, April 3 at the Youth Center.

“We’re putting together food baskets for Vittles by Vehicles,” Bell said. “That’s our community service for April.”
