The 31st annual See You at the Pole is set for Wednesday, Sept. 22 with gatherings at both local campuses.

High school and junior high participants will gather at 7:30 a.m. at the high school flag pole for a time of student-led prayer. Prior to prayer time at the school, all students in grades 7-12 are invited to eat breakfast at the front of the school starting at 7:00 a.m., according to Tisha Wilkins, executive director at the Feed Store.

Students will gather in the gym foyer in case of rain.

Nancy Smith Elementary students will also have the opportunity to join together for breakfast at the Albany Church of Christ starting at 7:00 a.m.

Elementary students in kindergarten through sixth grade will walk in groups with adult sponsors from the church to the elementary school in time for a 7:40 a.m. gathering at the flag pole.

The theme for the event this year is “Just Pray,” citing the Bible verse James 4:10 as its basis.

See You at the Pole is a student-initiated, student organized, and student-led event, that has spread nationwide at school flag poles before school on the fourth Thursday of September.

The event started in Dallas at Reunion Arena in 1990.

Students gather to lift up friends, families, teachers, their school, and the nation in prayer, as well as share the Gospel with non-Christian friends on campus.

Adults who attend stay at a distance to allow the event to be truly student led.

Last year the event was altered somewhat to comply with restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Plans are to continue to be cautious about spreading the virus, but we do not have to be as strict,” Wilkins said.

Parents are invited to attend and participate with the adults who have gathered, but it is not required in order for their children to participate.
