Rylie Scott of Albany, Texas, will have help attending Texas A&M University this fall, thanks to her selection as a Jimmy Rane Foundation scholar.

Scott is among 36 students selected to receive a scholarship from the foundation this year. A 2018 graduate of Albany High School, she will major in biomedical engineering.

In high school, Scott earned a 3.98 GPA and was active in campus organizations. She was a captain on the varsity volleyball team, editor of the high school newspaper, and vice president of the student council.

She earned varsity letters in basketball, track and field, and softball, and she was also a member of Future Farmers of America.

Community activities Scott took part in included volunteering as a junior docent at the Old Jail Art Museum and at Closet Angels. She also helped in the church nursery, daycare program, and youth program at Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Scott said that she was elated when she received the news of her scholarship award.

“The competition for academic scholarships is tough, so being selected not only made me happy, but it also provided a moment of reflection of my journey to this point,” she said. “It has reminded me how blessed I am to have had the opportunities that I have had.”

Her future goals include pursuing a career in the medical field. She plans to be involved in missions work and hopes one day to have the opportunity to serve with Doctors Without Borders or a similar organization.
