Students, teachers, and support staff will celebrate the first school holiday of the year on Monday, Sept. 3 when the local school district dismisses for Labor Day.

Classes will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 7:55 a.m. at both campuses.

The next scheduled student holiday is Columbus Day, Oct. 8, followed by Thanksgiving. Classes will dismiss early on Tuesday, Nov. 20, and will resume the Monday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 26.

The fall semester will end with an early release on Dec. 21 for the Christmas break.

New Tables

Students attending classes at the secondary campus have additional outside seating options thanks to the donation of two new picnic tables by members of the Albany Student Council.

“What a great addition to the campus,” said principal Edward Morales. “Thank you, Donnie (Lucas), and all the students who raised money to purchase two tables.”

Regular Schedule

For the first few days of school, children in Head Start and pre-kindergarten classes were dismissed at 11:30 a.m.

Starting Monday, Aug. 27, children in Head Start and pre-K classes were released at 2:30 p.m., followed by the kindergarten through second grade at 3:00 p.m.

Older students at Nancy Smith Elementary School are dismissed at 3:30 p.m., and students at Albany Junior/Senior High are released at 3:40 p.m.

There is not a bus for students dismissed before the end of the school day. All buses run at 3:40 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and at 3:00 p.m. on Fridays.

On Fridays, all classes are released at 3:00 p.m. except Head Start and Pre-K, which are dismissed at 2:30 p.m. as usual.
