Christmas could come early for all Albany students if the Lion football team advances to the state championship game next week in Arlington.

Currently, students are scheduled to be in class next week, with early release days planned for Wednesday, Dec. 15 through Friday, Dec. 17 at 12:30 p.m. each day.

However, if the Lions win tonight and move to the championship game set for next Thursday in Arlington, the holiday release will move to Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 12:30 p.m.

Students will return to classes on Tuesday, Jan. 4, with teachers and staff starting a day earlier on Monday, Jan. 3.

Secondary Finals

The Albany Jr./Sr. High campus will have two regular class days next Monday and Tuesday, followed by a final exam schedule on Wednesday through Friday. Three finals are slated for Wednesday and Thursday, followed by two on Friday.

Finals for periods 1-3 will be held on Wednesday, followed by periods 4-6 on Thursday. Classes during periods 7 and 8 will be on Friday. Again, an early release is planned at 12:30 p.m. on all three days.

If the football team advances to the state game, the finals will move to Monday through Wednesday, with regular school days held on the first two days and an early release on Wednesday only.

Finals under the modified plan will be held in the morning on Monday for classes during first through third periods. Classes during 4-8 will be held in the afternoon with a shortened schedule.

On Tuesday, finals for period 4-6 will be held in the morning, with a longer class schedule for seventh and eighth periods held in the afternoon.

The Monday and Tuesday school day will end at 3:35 p.m. as usual under the modified plan.

Finals for classes held during seventh and eighth periods will be held during the morning on Wednesday, with an early release at 12:30 p.m.

Regardless of which final schedule is followed, junior high students must take all finals. Lunch will be provided on any early release days.

A parent has to sign out a student in the office as usual if he or she is not staying for lunch. The same applies for students in grades 9-10 who have a closed campus at lunch.

High school students are only required to take two core finals this semester if they are exempt for other classes based on the absentee policy.

However, students who are exempt must still sign in each day of finals by 9:00 a.m.
