San Lucas honored by Cisco College

Eduardo San Lucas Esparza of Albany was named the top student in math of Cisco College, receiving the President’s Outstanding Student Award at a banquet April 22.

Dr. Thad Anglin, Cisco College president, presented the award to Eduardo. The banquet honored the top students in all departments of the Cisco campus.

Families of honorees were invited to the banquet, and Eduardo received his award in front of his father, Andres San Lucas; his mother, Elizabeth Esparza; and his sister, Yessica San Lucas.

Eduardo Was Nominated for the award by math professor Kyndall Kaska, his teacher of Elementary Statistics this semester. She wrote in her nomination: “Eduardo came into Elementary Statistics this semester kind of scared, like most students, but he has excelled in the content and has even found instances of statistics running into his life outside of the classroom!!”

She related that Eduardo has shared at least two different real-life occasions when he found topics covered in class and was able to understand what it was showing.

She added that Eduardo is enrolled in Math 1342, “but he frequently stays for the DMAT 0342 course where I have seen him helping other students with their homework and helping them with calculator issues. Eduardo has H.E.A.R.T.!!!!”

Professor Kaska was referring to the HEART acronym representing principles by which the top student in each department is selected: H = Honesty; E = Engagement; A = Academic; R = Reliability; and T = Tenacity.

Eduardo is majoring in Creative Media Industries and plans to attend Texas Tech in the future. He is the youth pastor at First Baptist Church of Albany.
