Several dozen cast members of the Fort Griffin Fandangle are gearing up for a special Sampler to be performed during the Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering at the historic Fort Worth Stockyards on Saturday, Oct. 29.

The show will be staged in the Stampede Room at 2:00 p.m. that day, according to Fandangle creative director Lorna Ayers.

A group with Red Steagall himself at the helm organized the event for three decades, but even though he is still involved, the 83-year-old Steagall has stepped back somewhat.

The American Paint Horse Association is now making sure that the celebration continues, according to Ayers.

Local residents are invited to attend the performance to support the Fandangle and the Gathering, which recognizes “the men and women who make their living horseback working cattle and providing beefsteak for the dinner tables of America.”

Day passes for events only, which do not include the rodeo, are $30. A day pass with a rodeo tickets ranges from $60 to $80.

Fandangle Meeting

Henry Musselman  and Branch Bartee both agreed to serve for additional three-year terms during the annual Fandangle Association meeting held last Tuesday, Oct. 11.

There was a motion made in honor of Winifred Waller to produce the 2023 performances of the Fandangle, which will be the 85 anniversary, as well as a second motion to hold a membership Sampler in the spring.

Bucky Nail’s term also ended this year, and Pam Davis and Treca Edington, have both retired from the board. Those terms were not filled last week.

Also tabled is the election of officers, which will probably be decided at a November meeting.
