Safety policies reviewed by trustees

In addition to a school safety report from Albany ISD superintendent Jonathan Scott, AISD trustees also heard the 2021-2022 financial review during a meeting on Monday, Sept. 19, but approval of the audit is delayed until the October session at the earliest.

Safety Update

Scott informed board members that a representative of the Texas School Safety Center will conduct an “Intruder Detection Audit” on the Albany campuses sometime before the end of the month to make sure all exterior doors are secure.

The superintendent also said that there is an Oct. 15 deadline for the district to submit current Emergency Operation Procedures, including “Active Threat” and “Active Shooter” plans.

Audit Report

CPA Cameron Gulley presented the audit for last school year as “pending,” advising that no action be taken before final figures are received from the Community Foundation of Abilene regarding AISD investments. Those are expected in the next few weeks.

Gulley did not cite any compliance issues and noted that the district is in good financial shape, largely because of COVID funding sources.

Recent Conferences

Scott reported on a couple of recent conferences where state legislators were in attendance, specifically mentioning teacher shortage concerns and enrollment demographics.
