McMurry University inducted former Albany resident Rory Peacock and seven others into its Athletics Hall of Honor on Sept. 8 in a ceremony held in the Garrison Campus Center Mabee Room.

“The induction cere-mony was a great experience that I was able to share with former teammates, coaches, friends, and family members,” said Peacock. “Getting to share the stage with some of the best to walk the halls at McMurry, including Coach Barbara Crousen and Coach Grant Teaff, was truly humbling.”

Peacock was honored for his record-setting performances as a member of the McMurry football team from 1997 to 2000. During those four years, he amassed 2,634 receiving yards (still second on the college’s all-time list), 161 career receptions, and a still-standing McMurry career record of 40 receiving touchdowns.

Peacock earned all-conference honorable mention as a freshman and sophomore, was named to the all-conference first team as a junior and senior, and was also chosen for honorable mention All-American by USAFootball.com in 1999 and 2000.

“It is a great honor to be recognized for the four years that I spent at McMurry,” said Peacock. “When I add in the number of text and social media messages that I received, it truly is an incredible feeling with the outpouring of support for this award.”

Other inductees into the class of 2018 were Crousen (former track and field head coach), the 2008 men’s track and field team, John Thomas (football), Tracee Nielsen-Ellwein (volleyball), Darcell Edwards (women’s track and field), and Grant and Donell Teaff (contributions to McM athletics). Also recognized was the late SSgt. Jeremie Border.

Peacock’s mother, Melissa Vickers, is a member of the Hall of Honor, Class of 1994. His brother Ryder and sister M.J. Vickers were also athletic standouts at McMurry, and his wife Dedra was a four-year starter in basketball.

“I kind of wish they had a family award, because we might have a shot at it,” Peacock said.

Peacock is deputy executive director of technology at ESC Region 11.
