Albany’s Judson Rogers caught a calf Tuesday, Jan. 17 during the calf scramble at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo.

For his efforts, Rogers received a $500 certificate to purchase a registered beef or dairy heifer to be shown at next year’s Fort Worth show.

Also participating was Albany’s Donald McCullough, who did not catch a calf but will get another chance. The sophomore was offered an open spot in the Saturday, Jan. 28 scramble. Albany FFA adviser Chris Beard said it was an easy decision for McCullough, who has an entry in the gilt show and will be on hand at the time.

Both Rogers, an eighth grader, and McCullough received a shirt and cap for participating in the scramble. McCullough also received a pair of Justin boots as a consolation prize.

Albany FFA students will show gilts this weekend, followed by barrows and steers next week.

Two other Albany FFA students, Ayden Balliew and Jacob Hale, have ag mechanics projects entered at the San Angelo Stock Show on Saturday, Feb. 3. The projects both received blue ribbons at the Fort Worth Stock Show.
