Albany’s Chance Robison shot the low gross score and tied for low net Saturday, March 26 at the Legacy Golf Tour’s Split Rail Open at Split Rail Golf Club in Aledo.

Robison shot a 73 in the one-day tourney and shared net honors with Blake Little of San Diego, California.

Robison, a 1-handicapper, said he is using the Legacy Golf Tour as a stepping stone to a shot at the PGA Tour.

“I’m trying to get to several PGA event qualifiers,” he said. “I’m working towards being a professional golfer. The Split Rail Open was a good one to have in my book.”

Robison, 38, has taken a winding path toward his goal.

“I won the Southern Colorado Open back in the day, then I started a family, and that kind of slowed me down,” he said. “I also rode bulls professionally in the PBR from 2003 to 2007. It came down to either golf or bull riding.”

The decision was made easier when Robison underwent knee surgery.

“I feel like God kind of knocked me down to make me realize the talent I have,” he said. “I’m coming from behind because a lot of the other guys have played college golf, and I’m trying to get that experience to play at a pro level again.”

Robison said his performance at the Split Rail Open, his first outing on the Legacy Golf Tour, provided his hopes a tremendous boost.

“With all the golf balls I hit every day, it’s like my practice is paying off,” he said. “I’ve told everybody I could always out-practice everyone. I’m healing up with my knee surgery. Now with the first event I feel like I couldn’t be any more blessed.”
