Roads closed to truck traffic

A decision to close several precinct 4 roads to truck traffic and an update to a previous declaration regarding illegal immigrationwerepassed during Monday’s meeting of the Shackelford County commissioners.

During the citizens portion of the session, Gary Leonard said that hewaspresentasamember of the clergy and that he prayed daily for the elected officials and their task of running county government.

Leonard added that he intended to be involved and attend meetings, stating that “there’s nothing worse than an apathetic citizen. I hope to set an example.”

Pct. 4 Roads

Commissioner Cody Jordan proposed that county roads 165, 168, 169, 171, 173, 174, 175, and part of 164 be posted with signs stating “No ThroughTrucks”because “rock trucks are destroying those roads.”

He confirmed that therearealternateroutes forthetrucks,andhealso stated that the sheriff’s department will enforce the action, which passed in the form of a motion.

Declaration Update County judge John Viertel asked that the court renew and update a 2022 declaration about illegal immigration, adding some verbiage and then filing it with TDEM so it becomes official.

Commissioners also passed a “Demonstration of Support” for Gov. Abbott’s border stance regarding the placement of wire along the border.
