The Shackelford County 4-H rifle team is seeking sponsorships for new equipment and to help cover costs of upcoming competitions.

The team, coached by Jessica Wade, will put sponsors’ logos on T-shirts and a banner to be displayed at events.

Sponsorship levels are Bolt Action ($100), Lever Action ($50) and Pump Action ($25).

Digital copies of logos may be sent to jeholmes03@gmail.com. Checks should be made payable to Shackelford County 4-H.

The team will be traveling to Brownwood next month for the Shooting Sports Extravaganza Contest.

For more information, contact Shackelford County extension agent Kelsey Bell at 325-762-9435 or visit the Shackelford County 4-H Facebook page.

Trip to Capitol

Shackelford County 4-H president Johnnie Hise participated in a program addressing the future of agriculture in Texas on Feb. 28-March 1 at the state capitol in Austin.

Hise, who also serves as a Texas 4-H Fashion and Interior Design Ambassador, joined other ambassadors and the State 4-H Council to learn about agricultural issues and how people within the capitol are treating them.

Among state officials participating were Texas Workforce Commission chairman Bryan Daniel, Texas House of Representatives chief of staff Todd Kercheval and Texas Supreme Court Justice Brett Busby.

“Justice Busby showed us one of the courtrooms and talked to us about leadership,” Hise said. “We asked him questions about different cases he’s heard.”

The meeting included a presentation from the Texas Farm Bureau about water conservation.

“A lot of my Fashion Ambassadors didn’t really relate to the agriculture topics,” Hise said. “Since I’m more agriculturally inclined, I got a lot out of it. It really helped me in both 4-H and FFA.”
