Two teams scored 53 strokes each at the Albany Kiwanis John Rose and Jim Law Memorial Golf Tournament Oct. 2, and the deadlock for top place was settled by the common tie-breaking practice of a scorecard playoff.

Team Waterhole #2 (Zane Jones, Sean Loyer, Tommy Barton, and Booger Hughes) was awarded first place at the charity golf tournament with a score of 53. Placing second after the tie-breaker were James Waters, Charles Barrett, Rodney Barton, and Randy Walker at 53.

Third place was Fox Tank Co. made up of Justin Noble, Tyler Driskill, Kris Gay, and Cody Gay.

Three teams won the random draw, splitting $200 per team, including Matt Birkla, Marty Jaco, Wade Montgomery, and Bucky Nail; Donnie Anderson, Ector Moreno, and Rick Guiterrez; and Jacob Clawson, Bryan Snow, Walker Bolin, and Mike Snead.

“The weather was perfect, and everyone seemed happy to be out enjoying themselves,” said Steve Waller, coordinator for the Kiwanis Club Golf Tournament.

Hole #9 was the site of the “Longest Drive” competition, and it was won by Hughes.

“Closest to the Pin” competitions were held at three holes. The winner at Hole #5 was Paul Blackerby. Rob Harris was closest at Hole #6, and the nearest ball at Hole #8 was teed off by Klay Mitchell.

The winner of the Hole #4 “Closest to the Line” competition was Sean Loyer.

There were four holes with a “Closest to the Fairway Marker” contest.

Mike Snead was the only golfer to hit his ball inside the box at Hole #7. Balls were raffled off at Hole #1 to Blackerby, Hole #2 to Balliew, and Hole #3 to Sam Snead.

The golf tourney and fajita meal is one of the fundraisers sponsored by the local Kiwanis Club.

The Albany Kiwanis Scholarship Fund sponsors students at all levels in academic and athletic activities, as the Kiwanis work to develop future generations of leaders.

“We really appreciate those who donated,” said Waller. “We thought it would be a down year, but we were surprised how everyone came through.”
