Relief team helps with cleanup
By Lynsi Musselman
Hurricanes that threatened the Gulf Coast last week took several Albany residents to Sulfur, Louisiana to help in clean-up and relief efforts for those affected by Laura.
First Baptist youth minister Campbell Terry, Paige Thompson, and Michala Huckabay all traveled south together last week.
“We did not go to the Texas coast like we originally planned, Terry said. “Due to the shift in the storm, we went to Sulfur, Louisiana where we helped serve Houston River Baptist Church and the people of Sulfur.”
Terry reported that the work consisted of going door to door and helping where they were needed.
The goal was also to get Houston River Baptist Church back up and functioning for future missionaries and disaster relief teams to be able to come in and finish what was started.
“The trip was amazing,” Terry added. “It was probably the one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done because of the emotional toll of seeing all the destruction.”
Terry said even though the three who traveled were from First Baptist Church, the trip was open to anyone, and was Albany’s mission, because support and prayers came from all over the community.
