The Prairie Theater was the site of the first official rehearsal for the 2021 Fandangle on Tuesday, May 4.

Work began on the large group numbers including “Lock, Stock, and Barrel,” “Kissin’ Kin,” “Texas Central,” “Rockin’ Chair,” “Come and Get It,” and “Punchin’ Cows.”

The same group is scheduled to practice on Thursday, May 6 starting at 7:30 p.m.

Fandangle artistic director Lorna Ayers said that everyone who is interested in participating in the show this year should plan to attend the first practices.

“We are casting the smaller scenes from the people who show up at the first rehearsals,” Ayers said.

Prospective cast members will also want to be aware of changes to the show.

“We will start practice for the kids’ square dancing and Huppi Hi on Sunday nights this month,” said Ayers. “Square dance is kindergarten through sixth grade. There won’t be a preschool square dance this year, but there will be a special scene for them elsewhere in the show.”

Starting Sunday, May 9, specific groups have been assigned certain nights to rehearse during the week with all sessions beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Scenes that will be rehearsed on Sundays are Indians, Square Dancing, Lavender Cowboy, and Big Sister.

Groups scheduled to rehearse on Mondays include Fort Griffin Street, Beehive Interior, Drunk and Disorderly, and Reprise.

Tuesday night practices are for all settlers, large groups, Spittin’ Image, and Church.

“Huppi Hi,” which is for ninth to 12th graders, will practice on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. followed by Train.

Thursday nights will typically be rehearsals for Cynthia Ann Parker, Loving/Goodnight, Soldier’s Song, and Snake. Six Flags, Keep Workin’ Down, and Just a Child will rehearse on Thursday, May 20 starting at 7:00 p.m.

Additional scenes are included on the schedule which covers both May and June.

All horses, wagons, lights, and sets will be at practice starting Monday, June 7.

Rehearsal schedules can be picked up at the Fandangle office or at practice.

Ayers also encourages cast members to sign up for text alerts which are used when there are last-minute changes.

“Everyone involved in Fandangle should sign up to receive text updates by texting @fandan to 81010,” said Ayers.
