Students at Albany Junior/Senior High School and Nancy Smith Elementary School concluded Red Ribbon Week with the announcement of contest winners from both campuses.

The campaign educates students and the general public about drug and alcohol abuse.

At the Junior/Senior High campus, second-period classes decorated doors, with the classes of Rod Britting and Chanel Hayner tying for first place. Jamie Wilson’s class finished second, and Melanie Turner’s class took third.

“Red Ribbon Week went really well,” Junior/Senior High counselor Michaela Bradford said. “The teachers did a really great job on the doors this year, and our judges were very impressed with the quality of the decorations. That made their decision really hard, which resulted in a tie for first place.”

Results of the contest were announced at the pep rally for the football game against Santo. The two winning classes will both receive a pizza party. Students from the second and third place classes will also receive prizes.

“The judges were super excited about how well the door decorating went this year,” Bradford said. “They thought these were some of the best they’ve seen yet.”

In the Nancy Smith Elementary School poster contest, Wyatt Brown won the first and second grade competition, with Daxton Lehew second and Maggie Spraberry third.

In the third and fourth grade division, Mia Smith was awarded first place, Presley Rosales second, and Willa Early third.

In the fifth and sixth grade contest, Kamryn Graham won, with Charli Trail second and Tara Cauble third.

The winning students will receive their prizes at the awards assembly on Friday, Nov. 12.
