A little over one year since fencing and the first scaffolding went up, a certificate of substantial completion was signed by county judge Ross Montgomery for a $1.37 million repair project at the Shackelford County Courthouse.

The fencing came down last week and all roof and bell tower construction has been finished, with a public reception planned next month by county officials to show off the repairs.

Alan Odom of Premier Metalwerks was in town Wednesday with a crew to look at windows that are still causing problems, as well as clean up a few other items on the punch list.

The two commissioners present at Monday’s regular meeting, backed up by Montgomery to make up a quorum, voted to pay Premier’s September statement of $96,219, and Montgomery signed the certificate of completion.

Charlie Kearns of Komatsu Architecture, who has been helping oversee the project, sent word to the meeting that representatives of the Texas Historical Commission feel that Nov. 26, the date of a regular commissioners court meeting, would be a good date for them to come to a reception.

The elected officials informally agreed on that date for the event.
