Six of the seven members of the Shackelford County Hospital District’s board of directors met for a brief special session on Friday, July 1, with all but a couple of minutes held behind closed doors.

The meeting was called to order by the board president, Jo Ann Estridge, at 11:30 a.m., and it was immediately closed to discuss a possible pay raise for nurse practitioner Travis Wilburn, who has been at the local clinic for almost 20 years, starting in 2003.

The session was reopened to the public at 12:00 noon, with a motion made by Myra Hise, seconded by Leslie Belcher to approve a pay raise. The motion passed, with Mary Beth Jones and Jason Price abstaining.

In addition to Estridge, Kayla Herron was also present for the special meeting.

According to Estridge, the pay raise was based on “longevity.”

Raises for several other SCHD staff members were approved at a June 20 session.

Estridge said that job descriptions have been used for evaluations for the past several years, but some board members have asked that contracts be re-introduced.
