Rainfall totals pass annual average

With rain expected to continue through the end of the week and possibly re-enter the picture again as soon as next Wednesday, the Albany area is already far above the October rainfall average of 2.99”, with 7.28” recorded as of press time on Wednesday morning.

The year-to-date total is 29.44 with more than two months to go, compared with an annual average of 28.36”.

In Albany, there has been 12.60” of rainfall since Sept. 1, while unofficial reports from other parts of the county are as high as 18” for the same period.

With major flooding in other portions of the state, there have been no significant problems or damage either within the city of Albany or Shackelford County, according to city manager Billy Holson and several county commissioners.

The biggest total so far has been reported by Gerry Cates, who keeps records on the Palm Ranch several miles south of Albany, with 18.37” since Sept. 2.

Other numbers for September and October include 16.2” on the Newell Ranch and 14.28” near Landreth Dam. In just the last 10 days, there has been 10.2” at Acampo, just under 10” just east of the Moran community, and 6.6” at Fort Griffin. 

Lake Hubbard is now listed at 80.2 percent full, and has risen about a foot and a half since Sept. 1.
