Rain chances stick around

After months of watching lake levels drop and vegetation shrivel, Shackelford County residents got some significant precipitation this week, with prospects of even more before thunderstorm chances begin dwindling on Sunday.

Rainfall started last Sunday about noon, continued on Monday, then fell over most of the county Tuesday, with some areas receiving two inches or more before press time.

In the extended forecast, the National Weather Service predicts a 50 to 60 percent likelihood of thunderstorms every day through Saturday, when the percentage falls to 20 for Sunday and Monday, Sept. 9-10.

During that time, temperatures will be cooler as well, expected to reach highs in the low to mid 80s until Monday, when they are forecast in the high 80s.

Rainfall for the year to date is 18.88 inches as of Wednesday morning, with Hubbard Creek Reservoir now listed at 74.2 percent full.
