In only six weeks, the senior class of Albany High school will walk across the stage and receive their diplomas.

After the ceremony, the graduates will enjoy the tradition of Project Graduation, which is the alcohol and drug-free event that concludes a student’s experience at AHS.

The 45 members of this year’s graduating class will be staying in town and celebrating in a progressive style by enjoying all the fun facilities Albany has to offer the youth.

Activities will begin around 10:30 p.m. on graduation night and conclude around 5:00 a.m. the following morning when senior gifts will be distributed.

In order to support local businesses, the Project Graduation committee will give out “Albany Bucks” to each graduate.

These coupons can be redeemed at participating local merchants, and then the Project Graduation committee will then reimburse the business.

The entire night is free to the graduates as a reward for their years of hard work and to encourage maximum participation from all class members.

All costs are covered by fundraisers and by tax-deductible donations from individuals and businesses in the local community.

The 2022 seniors and their parents have completed a record-breaking Valentine’s Day truffle sale, sold other Valentine goodies, hosted a Sunday chicken spaghetti luncheon, auctioned baked items, and worked during the junior high district track meet.

Continued support from the community and friends of AHS will complete the efforts to provide a fun-filled, safe night for the students, according to the letter sent out recently by the Project Graduation committee.

Any donations contributed to the event are tax-deductible.

Donation cards have been mailed out to the community, and a tax-deductible receipt will be mailed to all donors.

For more information on Project Graduation or to make a donation, drop them at First National Bank, specifying Project Graduation, or contact event coordinator Kenzie Fairchild.

Donations can also be mailed to Project Graduation, c/o Kenzie Fairchild, 224 South Jacobs St., Albany TX 76430.
