Progress has been reported in solving a series of car burglaries that occurred earlier this month, and the same thieves have apparently hit several other communities, according to Shackelford County deputy Jason Price, who is investigating along with police chief Mike House.

Officers are working with law enforcement in at least five other areas, including towns in Jones, Taylor, Callahan, and Haskell counties, Price said.

“There are some promising leads,” he said, “and it looks like that in addition to what we believe to be an Albany connection among the suspects, there are connections to three or four of the other communities.”

Price said that the thieves seem to be targeting “vehicles of opportunity,” looking for “whatever they find that’s unlocked.”
