With final delivery of chickens for exhibitors, preparations for the 2023 Shackelford Youth and Livestock Show are in full swing.

Albany FFA adviser Chris Beard said all animals have been delivered and validated. Entries were finalized earlier this month.

“Everything’s in, everything’s validated,” Beard said. “Now the kids have to keep their animals fed, watered, and walked.”

Beard said the Shackelford Youth and Livestock Association met last week to review the show’s structure and schedule. The 2023 show dates are Thursday-Saturday, Jan. 19-21.

“We finalized all the plans for the upcoming stock show and figured out everything we’re going to do,” Beard said.

While no formal workday is planned for this year, Beard said FFA and 4-H members will meet Saturday, Jan. 14 to get things ready.

“We won’t schedule an official workday,” he said, “but the FFA and 4-H are going to go out there the week before to sweep and clean, make sure the bleachers and sidewalks are cleaned up, and get all the pens prepared and ready to go.”
