Powder Puff game set Sunday

The Feed Store student council is reviving Powder Puff football in Albany with two teams of high school girls meeting at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 24 at Robert Nail Memorial Stadium.

The event, formerly sponsored by the Albany High School student council, has been dormant for several years, according to Feed Store director Tisha Wilkins.

“This is for fellowship and fun,” Wilkins said. “It’s free admission, but we are going to be asking for donations to The Feed Store at the gate.”

The senior and sophomore girls, coached by senior boys, will play the junior and freshman girls, coached by junior boys.

“The underclass boys are going to be the cheerleaders,” Wilkins said. “I hope they wear cheerleading skirts.”

Wilkins said water will be provided, but the concession stand will not be open.

“The band will be there,” she said. “We’ll have the tunnel from the Booster Club, and John Tate is announcing just like a real football game.”

Wilkins said the game will employ rules similar to flag football and 7-on-7.

“One rule that we added just to make this event more fun is that there will be a penalty if a player does not celebrate a touchdown,” she said.
