Pool Splash Day planned June 1

By Melinda L. Lucas

The Albany City pool will open to the general public on Thursday, June 1 with a one-day-only, free-admittance Splash Day.

Meg Walser, who helped with the operation of the facility last summer, is the pool manager this summer. Her main duty will be to coordinate the lifeguards’ schedule. The city will operate the concession stand this summer, with lifeguards rotating through to make the sales.

Private parties will also be booked through City Hall this year rather than by calling Walser. Kenisha Lucas at the city office said Tuesday that June and July are already almost completely booked.

“We are only booking parties through July, and July 30 is the last day for the pool to be open because two-a-days start on July 31,” Lucas said. “We can’t staff the pool after that because most of our lifeguards start athletics.”

Students or adults who are looking for summer work can pick up applications at the Albany City Hall or Albany High School office. Prospective employees must be at least 15 years old.

Pool Opening

The facility will open to the general public from 12:30-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 1 for the annual Splash Day.

Regular pool hours will be 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Sundays.

Daily entrance fees to the pool during normal hours remain at $2.50 per person. There will be a family swim time on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a special rate of $1 per person.

After-hour rentals are $200 per two-hour block, which includes lifeguards.

To inquire about availability or to book a time slot, call City Hall at 325-762-3133. Pool rental fees must be paid in full at the time the pool is reserved.
