Both the local 4-H and FFA clubs are staying busy as they approach the end of the year.

 Shackelford County Livestock Association

Members of the Shackelford County Youth and Livestock Association held a planning meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Plans were discussed for the upcoming local stock show scheduled for Jan. 21-23.

The annual clean-up day has been scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 16, starting at 8:00 a.m.

FFA advisor and AJHS ag science instructor Chris Beard said he and other organizers are finalizing stock show entries and finishing any remaining validations.

“The rabbits have already been validated and will be picked up on the 14th,” stated Beard. “We will pass out the rabbits on the 15th, although some students may be able to pick up their animals that night, depending on how late we get back.”

Stock Show Season

Beard also reminds students who are planning to show at the Star of Texas in Austin or at Houston to get their entries submitted.

“Anyone who is planning to exhibit at either of these two shows must have their completed entry form with their entry fee submitted to me by Friday, Dec. 11,” said Beard.

FFA Fundraiser

The FFA fundraiser items of meat and fruit will be delivered within the next week.

FFA members will be delivering the orders, and all orders will need to be paid on delivery.

4-H Christmas Party

The local 4-H Club will hold its Christmas party on Thursday, Dec. 17 at 2:00 p.m.

“School gets out early that day,” said Shackelford County Extension Agent and 4-H sponsor Kloey Painter. “We’re going to have our party right after the kids get out of school.”
