Deadline for horse validation in advance of the Shackelford County Horse Show is Monday, May 1.

The inaugural show, which gained approval from the Shackelford Youth and Livestock Association earlier this month, is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Saturday, May 6 at the Fikes Arena on FM 601.

Shackelford County extension agent Kelsey Bell said the validation process is all online at  texasyouthlivestock.com/horse-validation.

“We do not require validation for the county horse show,” Bell said, “but it’s required for district and state 4-H horse shows, with photos and registration papers for the horses.”

Bell said she expects about 20 entries for the show. Contestants will compete in three speed events, three stock horse classes, and two English classes. Entry deadline is Thursday, May 4.

Bell added that the show is open to FFA students in the county as well as 4-H members.

“I’ve been in touch with the ag teachers trying to make sure that any kids they have are aware,” she said. “I think most of the FFA kids who are going to enter are already 4-H members, but I want to make sure we don’t miss anybody.”

Buckles will be awarded for high point in junior and senior divisions. Prizes will also be awarded for class winners.
