Plans made for annual lighted parade

Volunteers are getting started on organizing the 2022 Annual Lighted Christmas Parade and Shop Small Town Saturday celebration in downtown Albany set for Saturday, Nov. 26.

The event, sponsored by the local Chamber of Commerce, is an Albany tradition and will include drawings for Albany Bucks in addition to the evening parade.

With no one in the Chamber office right now after the resignation of executive director Mary Beth Jones last month, members of the board of directors and volunteers are undertaking the large task of organizing the parade and drawings.

Megaen Birdwell, who is in charge of the parade, is hoping for a large number of entries from local residents.

“Anything lighted is welcome,” said Birdwell. “That includes tractors, horses, trucks, trailers, lawnmowers – as long as there are lights, we’d love to have you.”

Santa will be at the Bank Park at 4:30 p.m., then the parade will start at 6:00 p.m.

Stores will be open late, Birdwell said.

Shoppers will receive one ticket entry for each $10 spent, with more details available later.
