Plans made for annual Hamburger Supper

By Kathy Thomson

The Albany Athletic Booster Club met earlier this week to elect officers and start planning for the annual Hamburger & Ice Cream Supper and other fall events.

Officers elected at the meeting on Monday, July 15 were Stephen Kayga - president,  D’Anna Knight - vice president, Shawnee Tischler - treasurer, and Tisha Wilkins - secretary.

Logan Neve will be in charge of the “Tunnel Crew,” and anyone willing to help Neve with the inflatable A, the horn, or the flags is asked to contact him.

Volunteers are also needed to serve as team parents.

“Anyone wishing to be a team mom/parent please contact me,” said Wilkins. “It is important for at least one team mom/parent from each sport to attend the Booster Club meetings to stay informed and up to date about activities.”

Ice Cream Supper

The 2019 Hamburger & Ice Cream Supper will be held at the Bank Park at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12.

High school athletes and coaches eat for free, and the general public is invited to eat for only $7 a meal.

Dessert will be homemade ice cream provided by the cheerleaders.

The Albany Lion varsity and JV football teams, Albany cheerleaders, Lady Lion volleyball players, and both of the cross country teams will be introduced at the event. Young girls who attend the upcoming cheerleading camp will perform a variety of cheers and dance routines at the hamburger supper.

Football shirts and Albany Lion gear will be available for purchase, and all fans of the local student athletes are encouraged to sign up and join the Booster Club.

The Booster Club is not just for varsity football players’ parents. Fans of all school sports, both boys and girls, are invited to join and help support the Albany teams.

“Be watching for sign ups for volunteers to help with Sam’s runs, setting up tables, cooking burgers, selling tickets, etc.,” Wilkins said.

Program Ads

Athletic program sales are in full swing, according to Wilkins.

“If any person or business hasn’t been contacted and would like to purchase an ad, please contact me at 325-660-7443,” said Wilkins.

Ad costs and sizes are similar to last year.

Business card size is $30, quarter page ads are $60, and half page ads are $120 once again.

Full page ads increased slightly to $250.

Ads in the program can be for any athlete, cheerleader, student, or business, and are not just for football players or seniors, according to Wilkins.

The deadline to purchase an ad in the magazine-type 2019 football program is Monday, July 29.

The program is sold at all of the football games in Robert Nail Stadium including the home games against Dublin on Friday, Sept. 6, Hawley on Sept. 20, Peaster on Sept. 27, Menard on Oct. 4, Roscoe on Oct. 18, and Haskell on Nov. 1.

The football program ad sales along with proceeds from the Hamburger Supper and the concession stand are the main ways that the Albany Athletic Booster Club raises money to support the local athletes.

“All money raised from sales of the ads goes to the Booster Club,” said Wilkins. “We support all Albany High School athletes and cheerleaders throughout the season, and we help coaches with ‘wish list’ items that sometimes do not fit into their budget at school.”

Next Meeting

Booster Club members will finalize preparations for the Hamburger & Ice Cream Supper at their next meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, July 29 at The Feed Store.
