Plans continue to re-pave parking lot

Most of Monday’s hour-long meeting of the Shackelford County commissioners was spent discussing how to proceed with the project of re-engineering and resurfacing the Courthouse parking lot, and although the item was tabled, commissioners will continue to talk with contractors and are formulating the bid specs to release in the near future.
The elected officials still plan to advertise separately for dirt work and paving so that local contractors will be able to bid on the project and to try to keep the costs lower.
In addition, the commissioners plan to do as much of the work themselves as possible, tearing out the old asphalt and whatever amount of base is deemed necessary, as well as hauling off old material and bringing in new.
Lanhan Martin asked county clerk Cheri Hawkins to see if past minutes or the county’s master plan shows how deep the HVAC lines are buried under the parking lot.
“I think there’s at least one more step to take before we put bids out,” said county judge Robert Skelton. “We need to refine our scope of work more and get a better idea of what these contractors are willing to do.
