Pickup ends up on sidewalk

Employees at the local Dollar General had a scare on Tuesday, Jan. 26 around 10:15 a.m. when a pickup truck rolled onto the sidewalk in front of the store.

Dollar General assistant manager Trisha Reyes said all of the employees were pretty shaken up but there were no injuries.

“I had a girl working the register when the truck struck the front of the building,” Reyes said. “The cigarette case was behind her, which shielded her from the shattered glass when the front window was broken.”

Albany police officer Mark Purpura was dispatched to the scene after Shackelford County Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call about the accident.

“The call came in around 10:15 a.m. with a report of a vehicle striking a building,” Purpura said. “There were no injuries and the accident is still under investigation.”

Reyes said the incident was a real eye-opener for her and the employees.

“Even though it was a regular size pickup, it sounded like an 18-wheeler was coming into the building,” said Reyes. “At first, we were pretty upset, but we are better now and thankful that nobody was injured.”
