Shackelford County 4-H members Riley Reames and Faith Fry combined for 11 quality awards, including four blue ribbons, for their submissions to the Texas 4-H Photography Contest.

Results of the contest were announced at the State 4-H Roundup, which began Monday, June 6, at College Station.

The Texas 4-H Photography Contest encourages self-expression and allows youth to demonstrate skills learned in photography, including the use of photographic equipment and process of photographs.

“Our girls got top quality awards, all blue or red,” Shackelford County extension agent Kelsey Bell said.

Fry collected seven awards, receiving blue ribbons for Elements of Design, Details & Macro, and Catch All, and red for Motion/Action, Landscape & Nature, Animals - Wildlife, and Animals - Domestic.

Reames earned a blue ribbon for Shadow/Silhouette and three reds in Plant/Flora, People, and Leading Line.

Also at the State 4-H Roundup, Johnnie Hise participated in the fashion show on Tuesday, June 7. The horse judging team of Reames, Fry, Jordan Fikes, and Madalein Beard competed Wednesday, June 8.

Art Club

Shackelford County 4-H held its first Art Club meeting of the summer Thursday, June 2, drawing more than 30 participants.

“That was a big hit,” Bell said. “The kids are excited about Art Club. It went great.”

Judith Wagner gave a presentation on watercolor technique. Club members also took home an antler mounted on a board as their first art project.

“This can end up as a hat rack or jewelry rack,” Bell said. “The kids will decorate or paint those on their own.”

Community Service

4-Hers set up chairs for seating at the Prairie Theater in advance of the Fort Griffin Fandangle performances. Bell hoped to complete the project over a period of four days. Enough help was on hand Monday to do the job in one.
