Pets show off at annual event

One gerbil and several dogs were entered in the annual Fandangle Pet Parade last week at the Bank Park and all of the participants went home with a prize and/or a participation treat.

The exhibitors led, carried, and/or drove the pets down the sidewalk and past the judges on Friday afternoon, and winners were awarded in each of the seven divisions.

“We had somewhere between 10-15 pets,” said organizer Rylie Scott. “It was a pretty good turnout for the Pet Parade. This year the animal entries were all dogs except for one gerbil.”

Prizes awarded to the winners included free dog vaccinations to the Best In Show winner courtesy of Albany Pet Hospital, one free dog grooming from Lively Dog House to first place in the Wild West/Fandangle category, and $10 gift certificates from EZ Feed to the winners in the other divisions.

“Dog and cat treats were made to give to all the participants, but unfortunately we did not have any cats entered this year,” said Scott.

Contest directors this year were Sidney Bartee and Scott.

Judges for the 2018 Fandangle Pet Parade were Jonathan Scott and Jeff Davis.

Pet Parade Winners

Winners named in last Friday’s informal pet show are as follows:

Overall Best in Show was won by a long-haired Chihuahua mix named Abby, owned by Janna Pope from Clyde. Abby cruised through the parade in a remote-controlled white convertible, wearing a green, black, and pink outfit.

Abby also took first place in the Swimsuit category.

There was a tie for Best Costume Duo between Belinda Baldwin and her Labradoodle Bentley Bozak and Claire Shaw and her Goldendoodle Henry Reagan.

The Most Creative Costume went to Riley Reames and Oreo, a terrier mix. Taking second in the Most Creative was Lorrie Nelson and her Chihuahua mix Tinkerbell.

The Most Unique Pet went to Bob, Callan Edgar’s gerbil. Second place was given to Lacey Anderson and Tucker, a Corgi.

Lucy, a Jack Russell entered by Joey Baker was named Best Celebrity Look-A-Like.

Three places were given in the Wild West/Fandangle division, with Tatum Grady taking the first place ribbon with Penny, a Jack Russell. Second place went to Remi, a Labrador owned by Carli Edgar. Shadow, a Great Pyrenees mix entered by Jerrika Sanders, took third.
