Participants wanted for Cruise Night

A just-for-fun Cruise Night will take place in Albany this Friday evening, and organizer Chelsi Darnell is inviting anyone who wants to join to come downtown with their own choice of transportation.
“Bring your hot rod, motorcycle, or whatever you have to drive,” Darnell said. “New or old, just come to cruise and have a good time.”
Spectators can get out in their yards or watch along Main Street during the event.
Darnell said that she recently took part in a similar event in Breckenridge and enjoyed it so much she thought, “Why not do this in Albany?”
“I messaged a bunch of our car club members, posted it online, and also invited folks from the Breckenridge cruise to come over and join us,” Darnell said. “I’m expecting to have a good turnout.”
Darnell said that anyone is welcome to join the cruise.
“We’re just going to cruise around Albany like we do at our car show,” she said. “You can drive a four-wheel vehicle or a two-wheeler. We just wanted something fun to do, to get people out while still obeying the rules.”
Participants are asked to gather (in their vehicles) between the Bank Park and the Bank around 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. this Friday, May 8.
“We hope to have everyone there and begin cruising around 7:00 p.m.,” said Darnell. “We’ll cruise up and down (the main drag) as long as folks want to continue.”
The 14th Annual Albany Classic Car Show was scheduled to take place on April 18, but was postponed due to the current pandemic.
Although the event has not actually been cancelled, a new date has not been selected.
“There’s no way I can set a date, not knowing when we can go back full throttle,” said Shifters’ president Robert Snyder. “Right now the world has the parking brake on.”
