Shackelford County commissioners decided to take the next step toward resurfacing of the Courthouse parking lot during a meeting on Monday, June 13, with plans to advertise for bids in the next month.

Lanham Martin and Steve Riley were given authority to check with several local dirt contractors to get an idea of what is needed in order to write the specs for the bid, which will be split – one for dirt work and another for asphalt.

Other Business

•A motion passed to restrict certain types of fireworks during the Fourth of July holiday period.

•The current county-wide burn ban, which will expire June 23, was extended for another 45 days.

•Cathy Rupp asked the commissioners to consider using some of the American Rescue Plan Act funds to provide “premium pay” for county workers, an option that judge Robert Skelton said is “not off the table” and will be discussed in upcoming budget workshops.

•Ace Reames reported that the temporary work road built at the Caldwell Lane bridge had been washed away by recent rains, and that cost increases are probable.
